convert FAT partition to NTFS

To convert a FAT partition to NTFS, perform the following steps. 

Click Start, click Programs, and then click Command Prompt. In Windows XP, click Start, click Run, type cmd and then click OK.

At the command prompt, type CONVERT [driveletter]: /FS:NTFS. Convert.exe will attempt to convert the partition to NTFS.


NOTE:- Although the chance of corruption or data loss during the conversion from FAT to NTFS is minimal, it is best to perform a full backup of the data on the drive that it is to be converted prior to executing the convert command.

increase Virtual Memory in XP and VISTA

In Windows XP

1.Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2.Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.
3.On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.
4.On the Advanced tab, under Virtual memory, click Change.
5.Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file that you want to change.
6.Under Paging file size for selected drive, click to Custom size check box. You can enter the amount of memory you would like to reserve for Virtual memory by entering the initial and maximum size.
7.Click Set
When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
Special Note: You should choose the same amount for the initial size and maximum size. This will Stop your CPU from constantly changing the paging file.

HOT TIP: To stop your CPU from constantly changing the paging file, set the initial and maximum size to the same value. For example, 500 and 500. The value should be at least 1.5 times more than your physical RAM. If your computer has 512MB of RAM increase the virtual memory paging file to 1.5*512= 768

With the amount of information available for download on the Internet, it's easy to quickly fill up your valuable hard drive space and turn your computer into a sluggish, unresponsive monster. Keeping your hard drive clean is essential to the high performance that the latest computers can achieve. Fortunately, it's a simple process; one that can easily be performed on a regular basis and, with some organization, keep your computer running like a well-oiled machine. 



You can discover how much hard drive space is available on your computer by accessing the DriveSpace program in your System Tools. A pie graph will show you the amount of used and unused space for each of your drives. Check this often to keep an idea of how much space you are using.

There are six simple steps to clearing up your hard drive:

1. Uninstall unused programs.

Many times a new program will come along that looks fun to have or play with, but after a week or two you simply stop using it. These programs clutter up your drive and take up valuable space. You might be tempted to delete these programs from your drive, but doing so will cause problems. You must use the uninstall function of Windows for the program to be removed safely and completely.

2. Clean out temporary files.

When your computer is not shut down properly, it will pass information from memory into fragmented files. Also, while you are running programs, your computer will write information that it does not immediately need into temporary files. Installation files will also expand themselves into the temporary folder and will not always clean up after themselves. You can delete these temporary files safely by using the Disk Cleanup option in your System Tools.

3. Empty your Internet cache.

As you surf the Internet your computer stores web pages and images into a temporary Internet cache so that it can quickly recall and access information when you move back and forth between pages. This backup information can quickly add up and eat hard drive space.

Whether you use Internet Explorer, Netscape, or one of the many other browsers available, emptying out your cache is quick and easy. Simply follow the instructions in the Help files located within those programs. You may also wish to set a specific maximum file size for your cache folder, so that it is not allowed to run rampant.4. Empty your mail programs of clutter.

It's easy to browse through your email and leave old messages there, promising yourself you'll sort them out later. One or two messages don't take up much space, but hundreds certainly do. Take the time to sort through these old emails now and delete what is not important. Create folders and organize what is left. Make it a habit that when new emails come in, they are either filed immediately or thrown away. Set your email program to empty your deleted items folder each time you close your mail program.

5. Empty your recycle bin.

Once you've emptied your drive of cluttering, unnecessary programs; empty your recycle bin to remove what has been placed there in the process.

6. Scandisk and Defrag.

When Windows installs programs, it will put the files it needs anywhere that it finds free space, and not directly after the last program installed. As a result, your hard drive has patches of empty space on it that are not big enough to fit a full program, and will result in a drive space error if you attempt to install something new. Scandisk your drive to check for lost file fragments and to fix any errors it finds, then Defrag to pack all of the program files together at the beginning of your drive. This will clear out those empty patches and move all of the free space you've just created to the end of your drive.

Now that you've got it clean, keep it that way. Perform this quick maintenance routine every week. For your work computer, Friday afternoon before you leave for the weekend is the perfect time. When you return to work on Monday, you'll have a computer that is clutter-free and as responsive as it should be.

Organize your surfing habits. Direct all of your downloads to the same folder, so that you can easily find them and delete them when necessary, or move them to zip disks for storage. Keep track of the programs that you install. For trial versions, note the date that they will expire on a calendar. This will remind you to uninstall the programs that you can no longer use rather than allowing them to clutter up your drive. Also, if you run into problems, keeping track of new downloaded and installed programs and the date they were installed can help you track down the cause of problems.

Remember that the cleaner your hard drive is, the better your machine will respond! In order for your computer to be user friendly, it must have a friendly user. Be your computer's best friend and clean out the cobwebs regularly.

First of all you need two softwares to make an portable app.
STEP --1

STEP --2
Now , you have to decide first which software / game to make into a portable. After that first install Uniextract which you have downloaded from the above link and go to you setup file of your software / game .

Right click the setup file and click uniextract here .
IN my case it is Audacity.
After uniextracting , you will get some files and go to app folder in that and cut them & put them in the main folder where your setup file is .
STEP--4
Now work with Winrar.
Select all files except your setup file and right click them and select add to archive 



and there , name your file according to your software and it is your wish and in last type as “.exe” without quotes


Now go to advance tab and click and SFX options there.
IN general tab , in run after extraction place type your software / game .exe name as it as in your folder with caps if you have like that 



Go to Modes tab and select unpack to temporary folder and select Hide all. 



STEP-5
And now go to text and icon tab if you want to put an icon for that portable app and there browse your icon and click ok and ok and winrar starts to create an application and for your self whether it is working or not .

my friends newly bought laptop was infected with this autorun.inf virus. This virus corrupted almost all the drives on the Hard disk, and when ever he tried to double click on the drive or opening any drive it opened in a new window. In some cases, when your drive is infected with this Autorun.inf virus, you won’t be able to access the drive completely. You have to browse the drive by Exploring it i.e; Ctrl+E keys from the keyboard.

Sometimes ever you will not be able to see hidden files even if you have Show hidden files Enabled under Folder Options. well, this are all the wonders of this Autorun.inf virus.

I am going to show you this rare method of removing Autorun.inf manually using just winrar application, not any antivirus or malware programs.

Solution to Remove Autorun.inf VirusStep 1: First Disable CD/DVD or USB Autorun in windows

Step 2: Open Winrar.exe (Start–>All Programs–>WinRar–>WinRar.exe)

Step 3: Now Browse to any drive that is infected with Autorun.inf virus using winrar explorer.

Step4: Here you will see all the hidden files under winrar for that particular drive.

Step 5: Look for the file Autorun.inf and open it using notepad.

Step 6: In that Autorun file, some .EXE file will be mentioned that will be executed along with the autorun file. This exe file is the main culprit.

Step 7: Note the exe file mentioned in the Autorun.inf file. Close this Autorun.inf file.

Step 8: Now look for that .Exe file in the drive (Ex: c:/), Delete that .exe file along with Autorun.inf

Step 9: Restart your Operating System. Now your system is free with Autorun.inf Virus.

Note: Repeat the same process if your Usb or Pendrives are infected with Autorun.inf virus.

Now here is what you need to do:

Just copy the above code and paste it into Notepad. Save it by giving it any name you choose. Assuming, the file is called secret.txt, change the extension to ‘.bat‘ so that the new name becomes secret.bat. What you get is a batch file. You could actually save one step by saving the file in Notepad directly as secret.bat by enclosing the file name like this: “secret.bat” . This batch file is the one that you need.
You can edit this batch file to change the folder name and the password. To change the name of the folder that is created, change the ‘Personal’ (in bold in the above code) to any another name you choose.
Likewise change the ‘pwd123′ (in red in the code) to anything else to change the password.

Now let’s see how to use it. Place the file in the location where you would like to create your protected folder. Run the batch file by double clicking on it. This will create a folder named Personal in the same location as the batch file. You can now open this folder and place any files in it. Once you are finished, run the batch file again. You will be asked whether you want to lock the folder. Entry ‘Y’ (for Yes) and hit Enter. The folder becomes invisible. To retrieve the folder, run the batch file again. You will be prompted to enter the password. Enter the password, hit enter and voila! the folder appears


Important: The batch file acts like a key to open the locked folder. So once you have created and locked a folder, do not keep the batch file in the same location since anybody can open the batch file and view your password. So I would suggest that you keep the batch file in a separate and safe place or better still keep it on your pen drive or flash drive. That way when you want to open the folder just copy the batch file to the location where you have your protected folder and run it.

I did check it before posting it here. If you have any problem with it [like not working], then the problem is with the straight double quotes used in the code in this post. Once you copy the code you would also need to change each of the double quotes with your keyboard double quotes.

I've successfully tried this trick in Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
Following are the steps required to pull off this nice piece of trick.

1. Select any file you wish.
2. Right-click the file and click Rename or just press the F2 key to rename it.
3. Press and hold the ALT key. While still holding the Alt key, type the numbers 0160 from the keyboard.
(Note: The numbers must be typed from the numpad of your keyboard. i.e the number keys present on the right side of the keyboard and NOT from the number keys present above the top of character keys.)
4. The file will be without a name

What happens here is, the file is named with a single space.
If you want to create a second file without a name in the same directory as the first one, the above steps will not help you.

So how do you create a second "nameless" file?
1. Follow the first 3 steps mentioned above.
2. Release the ALT key. Again repeat the first 3 steps.
3. Now the second file will be created with two spaces.

Open Microsoft word and select Symbol in insert menu. Select font as Mangal and subset as Devanagiri. Here u find all the
characters that are required to type any alphabet.
Suppose if you want to type "अपुन
अच्छा लडका है" Insert the following symbols in the order.
Neglect + and signs. I just
placed it for seperation.
अ + प + ु +न अ + च + ् + छ + ा + ल
+ ड + क + ा ह + ै
While typing the characters, you will observe the related
characters merging themselves.
After typing the required message, just copy and paste the characters wherever you want.
